Each year members of Congress, as well as state legislators, deliberate bills crucial to your students and your job. In light of this, active advocacy by school counselors is more important than ever. Whether you’re a leader in your state or local school counselor organization, you’re active in legislative advocacy or you simply care passionately about your profession, all school counselors must make their voices heard. And ASCA will be your partner.
ASCA’s Advocacy and Public Policy Institute (APPI), held each year in March, in the Washington D.C., metro area helps school counselors across the country discover how to protect their jobs, their budgets and their students. You’ll learn about national issues that may affect you; effective ways to work with national and state leaders; and how to inform, train and educate school counselors in your area. Attendees also visit Capitol Hill to meet with their members of Congress and/or their staff.
