Micucci Named 2010 School Counselor of the Year

Congratulations to Barbara Micucci, 2010 School Counselor of the Year. Micucci, a school counselor at Caley Elementary School, King of Prussia, Pa., was nominated by her principal, Susan Silver, and selected from a field of extraordinary school counselors across the country representing all levels. A school counselor for 23 years, Micucci plans to use her new status to expand her professional advocacy. On her agenda is working toward the mandating of elementary school counselors across the United States. Those Micucci works with have no doubt she can be successful in anything she sets her mind to do. "She's a force to be reckoned with," says Kathryn Ashbridge, assistant superintendent for student services in the Upper Merion Area School District. Read more. 

The School Counselor of the Year program, presented by Naviance and ASCA, honors the best of the best -- school counselors who are running a top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program at either the elementary, middle or high school level. This newly enhanced program brings up to 10 finalists and their nominators to Washington, D.C., in late January, where they participate in a congressional briefing, meet with their members of Congress and are honored at the School Counselor of the Year Gala. From these finalists, one school counselor of the year is selected.

Nominees must be ASCA members, practicing school counselors with at least five year's experience and currently work in a U.S.-based school.
