Western New York School Counselors’ Consortium Returns to Region 8!

National School Counseling Week is just around the corner and so is this year’s 27th annual conference held in Region 8, Rochester, N.Y. With the theme “United for Success,” this one-day conference takes place Wednesday, February 7 from 8am to 4:15 pm with a SUNY Brockport Alumni free reception following. This event provides you the time and place to refresh and connect.
 
While you reflect on your practice and learn about new and innovative techniques to benefit your students and communities, you also renew your collegial relationships with other counselors throughout the region. Join us to explore some of the key issues facing our students and families as we work to build a strong, 21st-century counseling community here in Western New York. There will be four sessions within the day, with three breakout topics per session to choose from. Topics include:

• mindfulness
• group counseling in high school
• the opiate, heroin, and new synthetic drugs epidemic
• emotional freedom techniques
• Out Alliance – Allies with LGTBQ
• working with migrant children
• leadership styles
• play therapy
• partners in restorative practice
• teen empowerment
• understanding adversity
