Please join us on March 15 for the 2018 MSCA Day on the Hill. We have some exciting changes to this year’s event. We heard from Minnesota counselors and wanted to support requests for further trainings in political advocacy. We also wanted to make getting around the Capitol easier for attending meetings and trainings. This year, the Cass Gilbert Library will be our home base for the day. The Cass Gilbert Library is a beautiful space on the third floor of the Capitol. We will hold our afternoon training in conference room 316, also on the third floor and right around the corner from the Cass Gilbert Library. Our afternoon training, “Political Advocacy and Leadership,” will include CEUs for professional development.
Why should you attend DOH 2018?
Has your district begun hiring non-licensed staff for counselor duties?
Are you worried about your students who are undocumented immigrants?
Do you need more licensed counselors in your building/district?
Has the increase of student mental health concerns worried you?
Do you see a need for more community mental health support for your students?
Have you had counselor cuts in your school?
Are you concerned about career preparation?
Are you concerned about your heavy caseloads?
This is an opportunity for you to speak to your legislators regarding your concerns. Face-to-face meetings are very meaningful and allow you to advocate for your students and your profession at the highest level. This can be a new and uncomfortable experience for some people, so please keep an eye out for a webinar on the MSCA website from the Professional Development Committee on how to prepare for the day. We will also train you on the basics that morning. A complete agenda along with registration information will be available on the MSCA website soon. Please join us on March 15th!
Contacting Your Legislators and Appointments for the Day
Begin contacting your legislators in the area where you live and/or the area where you work. Please schedule meetings in the morning if you would like to attend the afternoon training. Click here to find out who your legislators are.
ATTIRE: Business casual is the recommended attire for the day as we meet with legislators. We will be on the move often, heading between buildings, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
