ALSCA Professional Development Updates

By ALSCA | April 2020

The ALSCA Board encourages, requests and values feedback from professional development participants, as we use the feedback to make adjustments for future programming. One example of how participants’ input has impacted our professional development program is the design of our Regional Workshops. They are organized as a membership benefit and support to all stakeholders who work with Alabama’s students. We contract with nationally-recruited speakers who present on timely topics in locations around the state, with the goal of providing meaningful professional development that is closer to home.

In an effort to shape our program for better support to our members and other participants, we are adjusting the timing of our professional development programs. With our annual Critical Issues Conference being held in September, and ALCA’s longstanding annual conference held two months later, some school counselors expressed difficulty in leaving work to attend both conferences. ALSCA has responded by flipping the dates of two of our professional development programs. We are tentatively planning our next Regional Workshops (a one-day event) for this September and moving our annual Critical Issues Conference (a two-day event) to spring 2021 (February or early March).

The ALSCA Professional Development Committee greatly appreciates all who have supported our professional development program, both with participation at our events and in detailed and thoughtfully submitted input. We will continue to search for ways to better support and equip you to do the critical work of supporting the students and families throughout our state.
