From the Chair: Growing to Greater Service

By Jessica Buboltz | October 2019

Hello, MSCA members. I’m very excited to be stepping into the position as the MSCA Board chair. I joined the MSCA Board three years ago. During this time, I have enjoyed advocating for Montana school counselors while working with some of the most passionate people I’ve met.

Over the last year, the Montana School Counselor Association has researched and initiated a change to a policy governance model. As we’ve moved forward, we’ve hired an executive director, Kindle Lewis; we are working to update MSCA governance documents; and in October, our executive board will transition into a board of directors. Although we will be moving away from having specific grade-level vice presidents, we will still strive for diversity on the board and hope to have representation from all grade levels as well as representation from across the state.

I am passionate about member engagement and we are looking forward to offering more opportunities for MSCA members to be involved. We are expanding our committees and looking for members to join. In April, we will hold elections for the board. If you’ve thought about getting involved at the state level, now is a great time to hop on board! If you have questions or are interested in being involved, please email me at jbuboltzmsca@gmail.com.

Our MSCA Annual Conference will be back in Belgrade on April 2–3, 2020. This year’s theme is the Power of Connection and we are excited to have Carolyn Stone as our keynote speaker. We look forward to bringing quality professional development and reconnecting with you all. We hope to see you in April, and if you have questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us.
