The first part of the school year seems to always fly by in a whirlwind and before we know it, it’s winter break. Each year, there are new challenges, old struggles and a liveliness about our building I am always anxious to return to. Our students share these same emotions as we all settle into our normal routines for the year.
As I have become fully engulfed in the whirlwind and am loving the fall colors, I encourage you to put extra pep in your step daily, challenge yourself to mingle more with students and staff and not get stuck behind your desk. Our best asset as a counselor is our personality – let your personality shine in everything you do.
Please be sure to mark your calendars with the following dates for the 2019–2020 school year:
February 7, 2020: Day on the Hill. Join us in advocating for our profession and the importance of a school counselor.
February 3–7, 2020: National School Counseling Week: School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans
April 23–25, 2020: SDCA Annual Conference, Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center, Spearfish
June 27–30, 2020: ASCA Annual Conference: One Vision, One Voice, Seattle, WA
As I continue to strive to be the best school counselor I can be, I share a quote that is posted outside my door: “I became a School Counselor because your life is worth my time.” Have a great school year!
