President's Letter: New Year, Exciting Plans

By Stacey Russell | September 2017

My name is Stacey Russell, and I’m honored to be serving as your president this year. I have been a middle school counselor for six years and can’t wait to share my passion for our profession with anyone and everyone who will listen! We have some exciting plans for the year, and it’s never been a more exciting time to be a school counselor in Kentucky.

As an association, we are working for you. We are your voice at the state and national level and are advocating for what you do for kids every day. We have already had several productive meetings with legislators and other non-profits to help further the understanding of the true role of school counselors and that is just the tip of the iceberg! We are looking to expand our member benefits and have some exciting things planned.

I encourage you to connect with us. You can find us on Facebook by searching KySchoolCounselor and on Twitter @KentuckySCA. Also, please use our board as a resource. Our level vice presidents are happy to assist in any way they can, and our contact information can be found on our website.

My theme for the year is Agents of Change. We are the only position in the building that DIRECTLY impacts every student when we are able to run a comprehensive program and I will work tirelessly to make sure our role is understood. It’s going to be an exciting year, and I’m so glad you’re along for the ride. If I can help in any way, please feel free to contact me.

Keep fighting the good fight!
