President’s Letter: Welcome Back, Utah School Counselors!

By Patty Nielson | September 2025

As we step into a new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Utah School Counselor Association. Whether you’re returning to a familiar school community or beginning a new chapter, we hope this year is filled with purpose, connection, and inspiration.

Our theme this year is "Advocate and Elevate." It’s a powerful reminder of the essential role each of us plays, not only in advocating for the needs of our students but also in elevating the school counseling profession itself. Your voice, your expertise, and your presence make a difference every day. As school counselors, we must continue to stand up for equitable access, social-emotional supports, academic growth, and post-secondary readiness for every student we serve.

USCA is here to support you in that mission.

This fall, we’re excited to offer grants to support your innovative school counseling programs, with applications due by September 19. We are also accepting nominations for the School Counselor of the Year awards, which will be celebrated at our annual conference.

Speaking of the conference, mark your calendars for November 20–21, and make sure to register early! Our annual conference is always a highlight of the year, and 2025 promises to be no different. Join us to connect with fellow school counselors, grow your skills, and reignite your passion for this work. Early-bird registration closes on September 19, so don’t miss your chance to come at a discounted rate.

Thank you for all you do. This year, let’s advocate boldly — for our students, for our programs, and for ourselves. Together, we will elevate the profession and empower the next generation.
