Preparing Together: Building the Future of PSSCA

As I step into the role of PSSCA Board chair, I have been reflecting on why South Carolina school counselors choose to join our state association. Beyond conferences and professional development, what value are they seeking? What do they expect from their association, and how can we best serve them?
 
At the heart of PSSCA are three guiding principles: to advocate, unite and serve. These principles shape our decisions and remind us that every action we take should ultimately strengthen our members and the profession.
 
One of the highlights of this summer was gathering with our Board of Directors and committee leaders for our Leadership Development Institute. It was an energizing weekend filled with meaningful conversations, strategic planning and a shared commitment to the future of PSSCA. We spent time reflecting on where we are as an association, where we want to grow, and how we can better serve the school counselors of South Carolina.
 
Through these conversations, one theme surface again and again: our members deserve to know not only what their association is doing, but why we are doing it. With that in mind, our board has made a renewed commitment to improving communication and increasing transparency so members have greater visibility into the work of the board, our committees and the initiatives moving our profession forward.
 
Our Board of Directors also dedicated time to reviewing our policies and governance practices to ensure they continue to support a strong, responsive, and sustainable association. As the needs of our profession evolve, so must the way we lead. By thoughtfully refining our policies and aligning our work with the priorities of our members and the needs of school counselors across South Carolina, we are preparing PSSCA to serve our profession well into the future.
 
An association is strongest when its members are informed, engaged and connected to its mission. I invite you to stay connected, share your perspectives and become involved in the work of PSSCA. Your experiences, ideas and voices help shape the direction of our association, and together we can continue building a professional community that supports, empowers, and advocates for every school counselor in our state.
