NDSCA Awards 2018

The North Dakota School Counselor Association (NDSCA) recently awarded Joan Copenhaver, counselor at Carrington High School, the North Dakota Secondary School Counselor of the Year Award, and Tracy Hanson, counselor at Lewis & Clark Elementary School in Williston, the North Dakota Elementary School Counselor of the Year Award. Both women were highly recommended for the award based on their devotion and commitment to their students, communities and schools. The North Dakota School Counselor Association extends our congratulations to Joan and Tracy. We wish them luck competing for the honor at the national level.

The NDSCA encourages others throughout the state to nominate their school counselors for this prestigious award. Nominations typically open up in the fall of the year. Access the nomination form

The NDSCA awarded Shana Otteson, counselor at Legacy Elementary School in West Fargo, the North Dakota Award for Counseling Excellence (A.C.E). The A.C.E. is a state-level award preceding the ASCA RAMP designation. This is a rigorous, evidence-based award based on 12 professional standards that lead to a top-notch comprehensive program. The North Dakota School Counselor Association extends our congratulations to Shana (shown below, left).

Congratulations also go to Ginny Blake and J. Nelson Kelly School in Grand Forks for receiving the as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation in 2017. They were one of only six schools nationwide to receive a distinguished award. Their RAMP application can be found on the ASCA website as a reference tool for other schools trying to achieve this award of high distinction.

The NDSCA extends gratitude to the West Fargo, Carrington and Williston communities for their support of these incredible counselors and their school counseling programs.
