Happy December! As you prepare for the holiday season, please take a few minutes to review this issue of the ASCA Newsletter. This edition’s theme is “Promote Your Program.” There is bountiful content about advocating for your role as a school counselor. As a counselor educator, I try to help my students foster their own advocacy skills. How have you advocated for your role? What have the challenges been? And where have you had successes? We would love to showcase your advocacy success stories in a future newsletter!
As 2017 comes to a close, I hope you will think about putting professional development on your 2018 must-do list! Our professional development chair, Ruth Carrigan, is working hard to continue to offer you quality PD (thanks Ruth!). If you haven’t already, it is time to make your reservations for this year’s conference. It will be held April 30 (preconference) and May 1 (conference) in Hyannis, Mass. Registration and hotel reservations are currently open. We are excited to offer you high quality workshops, graduate student poster presentations, and a wide variety of exhibitors! Check out all of the conference information online.
MASCA will once again offer the graduate student conference scholarship. Four recipients will be chosen to receive a $100 scholarship to be used toward conference expenses. The deadline for submitting a scholarship application is January 12, 2018.
Enjoy this issue of the ASCA Newsletter! And don’t forget, feel free to contact me at president@masca.org with any comments, questions, or school counseling concerns! Happy holidays from MASCA!
