Use Mindfulness to Help Grieving Students 
Virtually all students will experience grief/loss at some time, and school counselors are usually the first to aid grieving students. Discover the benefits of implementing a small group using mindfulness techniques to help grieving students. 

Learning objectives: 
After attending this webinar, participants should be able to: 
  1. Describe the impact grief can have on students' social/emotional and academic lives.
  2. Develop a small group and individualized intervention using developmentally appropriate mindfulness techniques. 
  3. Expand their comprehensive school counseling programs to include social/emotional small-group counseling based on the ASCA National Model. 
Lee Edmondson Grimes, Ph.D. is a Counselor Educator and Associate Professor at Valdosta State University. After serving as a school counselor for ten years at the elementary, middle and high school levels, Grimes entered counselor education where she teaches both Master's and Education Specialists in the School Counseling specialty at her university. Grimes's research focuses on rural school counseling, career counseling, and counseling interventions to close achievement gaps. 
Natalie Spencer, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, ACS is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Spencer earned her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from North Carolina State University and her master's degree in school counseling and undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has over five year’s experience as a school counselor assisting parents and students. Spencer is currently a counselor educator at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.
