Help HSCA Honor Excellence

By Rosanne Oda-Ching | February 2019

Each year, the Hawaii School Counselor Association seeks out exemplary school counselors from our schools in Hawaii. Our 2018 Hawaii School Counselor of the Year, Desiré Desoto from Waianae High School, was one of the five finalists from across the country for the national School Counselor of the Year award. The nomination window is open now through April 26, and we are seeking candidates for consideration for 2019 School Counselor of the Year.

Here are a few characteristics that make an outstanding school counselor:
  • Runs a solid school counseling program – using individual, group and classroom guidance lessons
  • Looked to as a leader in the school community
  • Serves as an advocate for all students
  • May have innovative methods of engaging students that would serve as a great model for other school counselors in the state
  • Assists students in being college and career ready
To nominate a school counselor for consideration, please complete the form and submit it with a description of how the nominee has demonstrated the characteristics of an outstanding school counselor. Our Awards Committee will use that information to select Hawaii’s best of the best in our school counseling field.

All nominations must be emailed to hawaiisca@yahoo.com by 5:00 pm, Friday, April 26, 2019, for consideration.

Should you have any questions, please contact us at hawaiisca@yahoo.com.
