Leadership Spotlights

By LSSSCA | January 2019

Monica Dominguez

Happy New Year, Texas school counselors! I am an elementary school counselor at Dr. Sue Shook Elementary in the Socorro Independent School District in El Paso, Texas. I currently serve on the Lone Star State School Counselor Association board as an emerging leader and as chair of the School Counselor of the Year Committee. As an emerging leader, I have been provided an opportunity to be actively involved with LSSSCA and see the inner workings of the organization. I have attended board meetings, assisted on a variety of committees and enjoyed many opportunities to develop my leadership skills related to advocacy and the advancement of the school counseling profession. Through this experience, I hope to continue to grow in the organization and take on a leadership position on the LSSSCA board.

LSSSCA believes in recognizing school counselors who devote their careers to serving as advocates for Texas students and ensuring student success. As chair of the School Counselor of the Year Committee, I have put together a group of school counselors from across Texas to select LSSSCA’s School Counselor of the Year. Our committee works diligently to select a school counselor who will represent both the organization and the state of Texas at the national level. It is a great honor to serve Texas School Counselors!
