MSCA Presents on School Counselors’ Role

This October, MSCA will be partnering with OPI on a presentation at the Montana Conference of Educational Leaders. This presentation will focus on the incredibly important – and often misunderstood by administrators – appropriate use of school counselors’ time. As many of you are all too aware, school counselors are often asked to perform tasks outside of the scope of our profession due to a lack of understanding among administrators of the role of the school counselor. We hope that this presentation will not only clarify the appropriate use of the school counselor’s time, but also emphasize that performing tasks outside of our role comes at the cost of implementing our programs that are critical components of safe schools. Kindle Lewis will be representing MSCA and working with Susie Hedalen, deputy superintendent of education at OPI.
 

Scholarship for School Counseling Students

The Montana School Counselor Association is offering a $500 scholarship and a year of free MSCA membership! This scholarship is for individuals either entering or currently enrolled in an accredited school counseling graduate program at a Montana university or college. Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2018. Recipients will be announced by January 31. Access scholarship information and form.
