Membership Types

Professional Membership – $139 (Voting)
Professional membership is available to school counseling professionals who hold a master’s degree or higher in school counseling (or the substantial equivalent) and work in roles connected to school counseling. Eligible individuals include:

  • School counselors employed in schools
  • Supervisors of school counselors or school counseling at the school, district or state level
  • Individuals who teach in accredited graduate programs that prepare students to become licensed or certified school counselors

Not eligible for Professional membership:

  • Individuals without a master’s degree in school counseling or equivalent
  • Individuals who are interested in school counseling but do not work in the roles listed above
  • Students currently enrolled in school counseling preparation programs (see Student Membership)
  • Individuals working in related fields who do not teach in accredited graduate programs that prepare students to become licensed or certified school counselors (see Affiliate Membership)

Retired Membership – $79 (Voting)
Available to individuals who previously qualified for Professional membership and are now retired.

  • Must have been eligible for Professional membership prior to retirement
  • Includes voting rights
  • Does not include member liability insurance

Student Membership – $79 (Non-Voting)
Eligible individuals:

  • Students enrolled in a master’s-level program that prepares school counselors

Additional guidance:

  • Doctoral students who meet the Professional membership requirements may join as Professional members
  • Doctoral students who do not meet Professional requirements should join as Affiliate members

Affiliate Membership – $139 (Non-Voting)
Eligible individuals:

  • Anyone interested in school counseling who does not qualify for another membership category

Examples may include:

  • Individuals in related education or school counseling roles
  • Researchers or advocates interested in school counseling
  • Doctoral students who do not meet Professional membership requirements
